A Steampunk, Industrial Wedding at Lowertown Event Center in St. Paul, Minnesota
Ben Gunderson (28 and a youth development director) and Julia Gunderson (26 and in merchandising) met while they were both studying abroad in Japan. They were quickly drawn to one another and began dating. Six years later, Ben surprised Julia at the airport by greeting her with roses and a custom-designed ring. Ben and Julia's wedding ceremony was held at Julia's childhood church, Grace University Lutheran Church while their reception was at Lowertown Event Center in St. Paul, MN. "Unique style, location, spacious, beautiful architecture and brickwork," Julia says is why they chose these venues. After discussing that they wanted a unique theme, they decided on steampunk, a recent style movement inspired by technology and aesthetics from Victorian, industrial steam-powered machinery. Their color palette was gold, black and purple with metallic colors. Stylistic details, such as, top hats, spats and gears, continued the look. Bridesmaids wore long, black and gold dresses matching the groomsmen who wore black suits and mismatched vests with pocket watches and cuff links that really matched the steampunk style. "The wedding party were not the only people dressed in theme," Julia says. "There were many guests that embraced the steampunk theme and came to the wedding in style." With all of the detail put into it, Ben and Julia's wedding really personified their unique theme.
