A Southern Charm-Inspired Wedding at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina

Knowing her love affair with "The Notebook" (and many other Nicholas Sparks books), Lindsay Brunet (26 and a teacher) wanted a vintage Southern theme for her nuptials with Brent Spurgeon (28 and a community-services operator). Brent even re-created the canoe scene from the movie for his proposal. For their wedding, they chose Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina. “We drove down to Charleston [where the film was set] and I fell in love with the plantations, charm and romantic flair that the city emitted,” Lindsay says. “We chose Magnolia Plantation because it felt like a dream being there, and I wanted our friends and family to experience its beauty.” The couple exchanged vows on the banks of the Ashley River and had their reception in a restored carriage house nearby. Wanting their wedding to feel super-personal, Lindsay and Brent made a lot of the details themselves. They created all the lush floral arrangements, including dahlias and carnations, Brent’s grandmother made the burlap cutlery holders and floral linen napkins and Lindsay’s cousin made all the stationery including the floral escort cards. Wanting to add a soft romance to the vintage, Southern aura, the couple used a soft lavender, blush and ivory color palette, and Riverland Studios beautifully captured all the details. “We wanted the day to feel calm and our guests to enjoy the venue space,” Lindsay says.
