A Southern Backyard Wedding at Private Residence in Beaufort, South Carolina
“NaTia is getting married in the yard,” is a phrase the grandfather of NaTia Ravenel (28 and a barista) used to say, even before she met her groom, Dedric Griffin (35 and a food-service supervisor). After the bride’s grandparents lost their home of 50 years in a fire, she didn’t think this dream would become reality. But she and Dedric were overwhelmed with joy to share where NaTia grew up with an outdoor wedding reception in the Beaufort, South Carolina, backyard. “My grandparents were determined to give us the wedding we never could have given ourselves,” NaTia says. “They would not take no for an answer.” Their style was Southern romance, sweet and intimate like the Low Country space, and accented with a color palette of purple and gray hues with a touch of turquoise. What element of their wedding best reflected them? “We would say the food for the evening,” NaTia says. “My mom made most of our favorites, and we got to share that with our close family and friends in one setting.” To make the guests feel special, NaTia’s grandmother made pear preserves as favors, so the couple’s loved ones could take a piece of the Low Country home with them. The bride offers advice to couples planning their wedding: “During this time, stress is going to come. What makes it better is that you get to go through it together. Stay true to yourself and stay true to each other. Remember, it’s a celebration.” See the sweet details captured by Nicole Caudle Photography.
