A Sophisticated Glam Wedding at Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas

A custom monogram set the tone for Kathryn (Katie) Black’s (28 and works at Booz Allen Hamilton) and William (Trip) Mullen III’s (29 and works at Trident Maritime Systems) sophisticated soiree at a local country club. Trip paired a white dinner jacket with a classic bow tie and velvet slippers that Katie gifted to him on the morning of their vows. “We agreed when we got engaged that fun was the number one objective,” Katie says of their lavish nuptials, which ended with a late-night pool party, where guests indulged in Winstead’s cheeseburgers and vodka lime freezes. Another necessity: white peonies, which were imported by the hundreds. “My mom has 63 peony plants in her yard, so I grew up loving them,” Katie says. Towering glass vessels housed dramatic arrangements of hydrangeas, roses, tulips, orchids, boxwood and, of course, peonies. “Having a flower wall was a big priority for us visually, so we budgeted in other areas to execute that high-impact detail,” Katie says of their statement-making florals.
