A Sophisticated, Modern Wedding at Arrowhead Golf Course in Wheaton, Illinois

While it took a while for Jocelyn Bau (30 and a general manager) and Steve Kim (29 and an account manager) to get to know each other, despite sharing close mutual friends, once the two finally started talking, they realized they had an instant connection. “Steve and I met during college, when he was visiting his childhood friend who happened to be a roommate of mine,” says Jocelyn. “Our first meeting wasn't anything special and we went on with our lives. Steve came by every now and then to visit his friend, but one fateful evening, we ended up talking throughout the night. Steve claims that he knew that we were meant to be after that night.” After nine years together and a period of long distance, Steve popped the question and followed Jocelyn to China, where she was living at the time. When it came to planning their wedding, the couple returned stateside to celebrate in the home state of Illinois. Jocelyn and Steve planned a modern, sophisticated affair with a subtle traditional undertone that paid tribute to their roots. They chose the Arrowhead Golf Course in Wheaton to host the wedding, the venue offering both a beautiful outdoor space for the ceremony, as well as a traditional banquet hall for the reception. “Arrowhead was one of the few places that had a great outdoor ceremony site as well as wonderful banquet hall,” says Jocelyn. “However, what really won us over was the food. We didn’t want to have another ‘banquet food’ wedding. Arrowhead really showed their professionalism and their pride, by providing a clean, beautiful and friendly atmosphere.” Shades of red, peach, lavender and blue worked with glitzy elements like rhinestone accents on the centerpieces, a backdrop comprised of hanging mercury glass orbs and mirror details on the reception tables to create a modern aesthetic with a subtle glam feel. As a nod to Jocelyn’s background, the color red made a prominent appearance throughout the day, serving as the primary color for the ceremony décor, and gracing everything from the linens to the lush arrangements of hydrangeas, amaryllis and roses and even the wedding cake at the reception. “We wanted to make our wedding special and memorable not just for us but for everyone,” says Jocelyn. “So we hired a live band for the night and they were amazing. The dance floor was packed all night and everyone had a great night.”
