A Simple, Rustic Barn Wedding at Brookside Farm in Louisville, Ohio

Constantly traveling for work made this bride want the complete opposite of a hotel venue, and that’s exactly what she got with this rustic barn wedding! Scarlett Englebrecht (30 and a senior account manager) and Jason Bickel (37 and a general manager of a gym) booked Brookside Farms in Louisville, Ohio, to have a natural, laid-back celebration that reflected their personalities. “We’re not fancy people, so we wanted to have a rustic, outdoorsy wedding feel,” Scarlett says. Inside the barn, the couple said their vows at an archway made of woven twigs and branches, topped with hydrangeas, hypericum berries and Queen Anne’s lace. The interior of the barn was then transformed into the reception, decked out in DIY details, from the burlap runners draped over the table ends to the tall ivory and yellow hydrangea centerpieces accented with branches. Their two-tier simple ivory wedding cake was created by Scarlett’s mother, which had a bright blue “Mr. & Mrs.” topper displayed on the dessert table, along with an assortment of doughnuts and cupcakes. Our favorite DIY piece was the empty wooden frames with wires that held up lace brown paper bags for guests to take sweets home in. "My favorite thing about our wedding was that it 100 percent represented the kind of people we are: simple and easy,” Scarlett says. “It was a very casual wedding and perfect for all our friends and family.”
