A Simple, Historic Wedding at Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma, Washington

This historic industrial building with a rafted ceiling and vacant space served as a blank canvas to hold the couple's simple wedding, decked in a color palette of blues and greens inspired by their love for natural elements. Ally Evans (30 and an actor/nonprofit event planner) and Patrick O’Keefe (32 and a freelance writer/project specialist) held their ceremony outside at the rose gardens of Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Washington, where roses and dahlias were in full bloom and required no additional decorations. The day was captured by Jenn Ireland Photography. The only flowers seen on the wedding day were the ivory, peach and green flowers incorporated into the bouquets and boutonnieres created by Flowers by Sandy. Since the couple were from both the East and West Coast, they embodied a coastal ambience at the reception at Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma, Washington, through the surrounding views of Mount Rainier and Commencement Bay. Sarah spray-painted the inside of knobby jars with gold to serve as table centerpieces, and Patrick hand-painted table numbers, welcome boards and any other signs seen throughout the wedding day. The detail that caught our attention was the seating chart: a large image of the United States, with guests' names and table numbers shown on the state where they were from. “We didn't bother with the tossing of the bouquet or any long, drawn-out speeches. We both got on the mic to say a few kind words,” Ally says. “Our goal was to have our guests be relaxed and have fun, and we believe we achieved that.”
