A Simple, Elegant Wedding at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minnesota

After meeting during their first week as freshmen at Yale, Kaitlyn Lillemoe (27 and a medicine resident) and RJ Price (27 and Harvard Business School student) got engaged outside of the dorm where they met. "RJ likes to credit himself for surprising me, but I knew it was coming after he insisted that we visit the campus and walk around," Kaitlyn says. For their spring wedding at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, the couple created a laid-back, yet elegant, fête by incorporating plenty of green and white flowers throughout the event space. "I've never been a pink or purple girl, so I decided to go with a green and white color scheme that matched the club's interior perfectly," the bride says. "One of my favorite details was this amazing garland which ran across the center aisle and a bed of moss where the escort cards were displayed." After exchanging vows on the club's roof deck in the late afternoon, Kaitlyn honored one of RJ's few requests for the big day. "We had the Mill City Quartet play Katy Perry's 'Firework' during the recessional," the bride laughs. For their elegant cocktail hour on the roof deck immediately following the ceremony, the couple kept things simple by avoiding one common wedding trend: "There were no signature drinks, no special music and absolutely no mason jars!" the bride says. After a night of dinner and dancing to The Sevilles, the couple wrapped up the night by serving guests their city favorites. "We worked with Minikahda to create a late night selection featuring the Minnesota State Fair's best food -- including cheese curds, pickles on a stick, sliders and corn dogs," the bride says. As for wedding advice to future brides: "Having a honeymoon is so crucial," Kaitlyn says. "It's so important to disconnect. Although we felt like the wedding was 'about us', it's impossible not to make it about your family, friends and guests."
