A Simple DIY Wedding at Congregation Har Hashem in Boulder, Colorado
Kristina Koenig (32 and a bilingual speech language pathologist) and Jodi Winicour (41 and a physical therapist) met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. For their wedding, the couple chose a reform synagogue called Har Hashem. “It feels like our home,” Kristina says. “We know so many people there, we love our rabbi and cantor, and we wanted to have our shared faith at the heart of our wedding.” They chose yellow and turquoise for their color palette for a fun, bright feel. They added DIY details—Tree of Life chuppah, calligraphy escort cards, different country table numbers—for the day to be a little more personalized. For dinner, Kristina and Jodi had to follow basic kosher rules since they were at the synagogue (no meat and dairy together), so they served vegetarian Thai food. “Random, but delicious,” Kristina says. At the end of the night, they served gluten-free cupcakes, and their two cupcakes were topped with two windup yellow chicks. “Two chicks… get it?” Kristina says.
