A Simple, Casual Wedding at Salida SteamPlant Event Center in Salida, Colorado

Joy Buhl (32 and a registered nurse) and Nate Zander (30 and a web developer) met on a mountain biking trip in Moab, Utah, organized by a mutual friend. They dated for a year before Nate moved to Boulder, Colorado, where Joy lived, and proposed a year after that. For their wedding the couple wanted the day to feel ultra casual, and chose Salida SteamPlant Event Center in Salida, Colorado, for its indoor and outside options and location right on the Arkansas River. They wrote their own vows, which both mentioned that they both love beer, both love games and are both competitive, all of which they incorporated into their day. For cocktail hour they had kegs of microbrews from their favorite local brewery and restaurant, Amicas, which also catered pizza for dinner. Joy and Nate enjoyed a white buttercream sheet cake from Whole Foods Market topped with wire bicycles in honor of their love of the sport and to pay tribute to their meet cute. At the end of the night, the couple gave guests little bags filled with five dice and instructions on how to play a game called Bar Dice that Joy’s brother taught them to play.
