Rachel, 26 and a PhD student originally met Marcus, 26 and a forestry researcher when they were both in middle school. The two reconnected later in life and Marcus proposed to Rachel in Europe after moving to London. "I had known that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Rachel for quite some time and I found an ethical jeweler in London who would let me design the exact sapphire ring that I wanted to give her," says Marcus. The pair originally planned on an outdoor ceremony at Yesterday Spaces in Leicester, North Carolina but changed plans after some unexpected weather and ended up exchanging vows in the dairy barn decorated with hanging dried flowers. “I got the idea for our neutral color palette with pops of purple and red from a watercolor that my grandmother painted," says Rachel. "It was just beautiful with red poppies and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background—we were even lucky enough to get married nestled in a valley!" Rustic DIY details crafted by the bride and her family included homegrown wildflower centerpieces and a handmade Applestack wedding cake.

Marcus commissioned an ethical jeweler in London to design Rachel's vintage-inspired sapphire engagement ring.
"We wanted beautiful North Carolina wildflowers and the Blue Ridge Mountains for our wedding color palette," says Rachel.
"I didn't want my bridesmaids to have to pay for a pricey dress they felt uncomfortable in, so I just told them the color and let them pick for themselves," says Rachel.
"The ceremony was planned for outside, but since there was so much rain and mud, we decided to hold it in the dairy barn with dried flowers hanging from the rafters," says Rachel.
