A Shabby Chic Wedding at Patriots Point Links in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
Southern romance flowed through Whitney Smith (31 and a human resources manager) and Chris Wright’s (31 and a financial adviser) wedding with bright pops of color and ultra-local details. They used a coral, green, navy, pink and ivory color palette, which was inspired by the colorful houses on Rainbow Row in Charleston, South Carolina. Holly Simpson from A Charleston Event worked with the couple to bring their vision to life, and Karen Spalviero from Keepsakes Florist created all the gorgeous floral arrangements for the day. Richard Bell Photography beautifully captured all the details. The couple knew they wanted a traditional Christian ceremony and chose St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. “The church was built in 1836 and has a lot of historic charm,” Whitney says. “We selected this church because it is rather small and intimate. We wanted our guests to feel like they were a part of the ceremony.” Whitney’s mother surprised them with a vintage Bentley to take them to their tented waterfront reception at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. “We chose the reception location because of the amazing water views,” Whitney says. “We loved the idea of a tent because it really brought the outside in. People were able to be outside by the fire pit and still enjoy the band and everything that was going on inside the tent.” Some of the best parts were the super-personalized touches such as crab cakes on the menu to represent Chris’s home state of Maryland, peanuts to represent Whitney’s home state of Virginia and even blackberry lavender lemon or bourbon cherry Southern jam favors.
