A Rustic, Whimsical Wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina

Despite coming from small towns where weddings with 300+ guest lists were the norm, Janet Little (25 and a designer) and Jake Massie (24 and a sports administrator for South Carolina Stingrays) decided to ditch tradition and opted for an intimate summer affair with a Lowcountry twist. “We wanted a really small wedding with close family and friends, and we wanted to share our love of the South. We had vacationed with my family in South Carolina quite a few times and fell in love with the history and beautiful scenery,” says Janet. Wanting the day to have a rustic, romantic feel, the Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC seemed like the perfect place to host the wedding. The couple kicked off the evening with an outdoor ceremony under majestic Oak trees dripping in Spanish moss, followed by an indoor reception in the historic carriage house. While the venue itself provided the d?cor with plenty of Southern charm, it was up to Janet and Jake to infuse it with their personal touch and details that would bring their romantic, rustic vision to life. They started by choosing a color palette of mint, coral, peach and ivory and enlisted the help of Wildflowers Inc. for the flowers. They didn’t disappoint, delivering whimsical bunches of lisianthuses, garden roses, dusty miller, seeded eucalyptus, snapdragons, pincushions and amaryllis that lit up the lush outdoor space and carriage house’s historic interior in their elegant mercury glass vases. Touches that made the day extra special were the couple’s customized vows and Janet incorporating her mother’s veil and grandmother’s brooch into her wedding day look. D’lish Desserts baked up a delectable cake for dessert. The mint-colored confection boasted lemon, red velvet and almond flavors. A tip for the taking from Janet: “Make sure the day is a reflection of you and your fianc? and the love that you have. Make it personal.”
