A Rustic, Vintage Wedding at the Grayson Highland State Park in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia

Sarah Smith (25 and an engineer) and Chris Hamm (28 and an engineer) met in geology class during college. Though they started out as the fiercest of competitors, they soon became friends and eventually began dating. When Chris graduated and moved away, they stayed together and maintained a long-distance relationship. “It wasn’t easy, but I’m glad we made it work and thankful that Chris visited me as much as he did,” says Sarah. Chris proposed to Sarah at a park they frequent with their dogs. Although Chris and Sarah originally had very different visions for their wedding, their styles came together to create a stunning wedding at the Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Their decor was rustic and romantic with a pastel color palette. Flower arrangements included an array of hydrangeas, lilies, roses, peonies and baby’s breath. Sarah designed her vintage letterpress invitations herself with a calligrapher. She made her own inner envelopes with doilies that she wrapped with twine, and she hand-picked vintage stamps for every guest. The altar was indicated by a vintage mantle that Chris and Sarah refurbished themselves, which looked lovely on the field during the outdoor ceremony. Reception decor included string lighting, burlap table runners, mason jar centerpieces and lace doilies. This rustic, vintage wedding was a jaw-dropper with its DIY details and ethereal vibe.
