A Rustic Summer Wedding on the Shore of Skaneateles Lake in Skaneateles, New York

Hannah Botsford (23 and a dance teacher) and Matt Rissler’s (23 and a principal supply-chain continuous-improvement analyst) wedding was a laid-back affair packed with personality and love. The day started with a traditional ceremony at Grace Chapel in Skaneateles, New York. The couple tweaked some of the more traditional ceremony elements to reflect their relationship, like incorporating a salt ceremony to symbolize the joining together of their lives. “What made this so special is that now we use the salt in our everyday cooking. And when we refill it every so often, it’s like we are reviving our love,” Hannah says. As guests entered Grace Chapel, they were invited to warm and bless the couple’s wedding bands and ring small bells—a play on Hannah Bells, Matt’s nickname for Hannah—as the newlyweds exited the church. The tented reception was hosted in a field on the shore of Skaneateles Lake, close to the farm that Matt worked on while growing up. The couple went for a country, vintage chic theme for the decor, dressing up the tables with burlap runners, blue mason jars filled with vibrantly hued peonies freshly picked from the gardens of the couple’s families and friends, and whimsical floral place cards. “It was a charming mix of down-home fun and elegance,” Hannah says. Before indulging in a buffet of mouthwatering barbecue fare, guests noshed on a spread of fresh vegetables, fruits and cheeses served in farm stands built by Matt and his father, a playful nod to the wedding’s setting. Between stints on the dance floor, guests played football, enjoyed a roaring bonfire and blew bubbles. “Our wedding was full of family and fun,” Hannah says. “We invited everyone we love and it was a huge party.”
