A Rustic Summer Wedding at the Springs in Angleton, Texas

Jessica Runge (28 and a juvenile probation offer) and Clayton Jenkins (28 and a project engineer) pulled off a rustic affair with a cheerful, feminine flair for their late-summer nuptials in Angleton, Texas. Creating a day that spoke to their personalities and style, the couple paired a bright palette of coral hues with ladylike details like lace and pearls and playful antler elements that spoke to Clayton’s love of hunting. The Springs provided a beautiful natural backdrop for the event, with 35 acres of breathtaking landscape and perfectly manicured lawns. “We loved the look and the fact that we were able to bring in our own vendors,” Jessica says. “We wanted to be able to have exactly what we wanted.” The day unfolded with an outdoor ceremony in a clearing surrounded by lush pecan and oak trees. Jessica and Clayton exchanged vows under a quaint wooden arch draped in a garland of wispy vines, vibrant coral roses, clouds of baby’s breath and antlers. Jessica made her entrance through a set of vintage doors and walked down a rose- and grapevine-trimmed aisle. A family friend officiated, giving the proceedings a sentimental touch.

After their “I dos,” the newlyweds led guests to the Springs’s rustic reception hall for a celebratory fete. Panels of airy white fabric laced with fairy lights adorned the space’s exposed wooden rafters, setting a whimsical, ambient tone for the evening, while classic hydrangea, baby’s breath and coral rose centerpieces interlaced with antlers struck the ultimate balance of romance and woodsy appeal. Jessica’s mother contributed her crafting skills, designing and creating many of the day’s details. After a dinner of chicken fried steak (Clayton’s favorite), guests indulged in a slice of almond cake with Bavarian cream filling, then made their way to the dance floor to bust a move. At the end of the evening, the newlyweds sent their friends and family members home with make-your-own trail mix, which tied in the evening’s subtle rustic theme. A tip from Jessica and Clayton: “Enjoy every minute of wedding planning because it goes by so quickly. Most important, remember what your wedding day is really all about. —Libby MacCarthy
