A Rustic, Romantic Wedding at Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin

Katherine Knitter (24 and a pediatric social worker) and Kevin Knitter (24 and a trust operations specialist) planned a romantic, whimsical affair with undertones of rustic charm at the Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor, Wis. The couple were smitten with Woodwalk’s quaint grounds and historic barn right from the get-go. The venue provided the cozy, inviting vibe Katherine and Kevin were after, as well as a blank canvas for them to make their own. “The words we kept coming back to were rustic glamour and romance,” says Katherine. “We wanted our guests to think they were coming to a country barn up north and then, on the wedding day, realize that we were actually throwing a very glamorous, upscale event.” Shades of petal pink, mint green and gold softened the rustic features of the barn, while details like sequin table runners, gold cutlery, glitter-flecked chargers and mercury glass accents created an undeniably sophisticated and festive backdrop for the evening. Flowers were an essential ingredient in bringing Katherine and Kevin’s vision to life and Flora Special Occasion Flowers didn’t disappoint. An antique wedding arch draped in a lush garland of peonies, amaranth, roses and greenery framed the couple as they exchanged vows they’d written themselves and perfectly arranged bunches of roses, peonies, phlox, larkspur and hydrangeas in footed glass vases infused the reception tabletops with elegance and a note of femininity. Playful details like hand-sewn ribbon chair decorations, an illustrated floral seating chart and an ombre cake added an element of whimsy to the decor, while wooden farm tables helped tie together the day’s two themes. A tip for the taking from Katherine: “Remember your marriage license! An hour before the ceremony I realized that I had brought the envelope with our birth certificates instead of our marriage license. We got married almost four hours away from home, so going to get it was not an option. It was almost a real crisis, but in the end we were able to overnight it to Door County and all was well.”

When it came to her bridal look, Katherine knew she wanted to go all out romantic. The bride-to-be was instantly drawn to gowns with a hint of color, ultimately settling on a champagne-blush number by Allure. “The color was unique, the lace bodice was very romantic, but the illusion back gave the gown a bit of sexiness too,” says Katherine. She added a crystal-embellished belt and shimmery silver sandals for a touch of glam and a fingertip-length veil secured with a gilded leaf comb.
Katherine and Kevin took full advantage of the Woodwalk Gallery’s beautiful grounds and the beautiful weather by hosting their ceremony outdoors. The couple gathered their closest family members and friends in the lush field behind the barn, where they profited from views of lush forest, wild-flower-flecked fields and the calm waters of the nearby lake.

Sticking with tradition, Katherine’s bridesmaids wore matching floor-length gowns by Bill Levkoff in a soft shade of blush pink. Airy chiffon fabric, delicate gathering at the bodice and a one-shoulder neckline lent the gowns an ethereal grecian quality that fit perfectly with the wedding’s romantic vibe. The girls completed their look with shimmery sandals, rose gold earrings and lush baby’s breath flower crowns.rn

The couple decided against classic escort cards and helped guests find the way to their seats with a beautiful customized seating chart decorated with hand-painted florals, whimsical script and an elegant gold frame. A garland of roses and variegated greenery was placed at the top, with a lush bunch of peonies, roses, hydrangeas and more accenting the bottom.
The reception decor struck the perfect balance between rustic, glamorous and romantic with wooden farm tables topped with shimmering table runners, gilded accents and full arrangements of classic garden blooms like roses, peonies, phlox, larkspur and hydrangeas. The centerpieces were arranged in footed glass vases and infused the reception tabletops with a note of femininity and elegance.
No detail was overlooked when it came to the decor — even the reception chairs. To set their seats apart from the rest, Katherine handmade ribbon bunting for the back of the newlywed chairs, which perfectly reflected the day’s whimsical, romantic feel.

Flowers were a key element in the ceremony decor and Flora Special Occasion Flowers was able to create a series of stunning arrangements that conveyed the couple’s romantic, elegant theme, while emphasizing the beauty of the natural setting. Stone urns overflowing with amaranth, roses, peonies and more framed the entrance to the aisle and small arrangements of romantic garden blooms decorated alternating rows. To create a focal point for the affair, an antique arbor was placed at the end of the aisle and decorated with a lush garland of greenery, peonies and roses, as well as a small crystal chandelier.
Katherine and Kevin decided to ditch tradition and create a ceremony that reflected their personalities and relationship. In addition to writing their own heartfelt vows, the couple had their sisters read poems of their choosing in place of tradition readings. “Our officiant Allin Walker, the owner of Woodwalk, also did something cool with our rings,” says Katherine. “Before we exchanged rings, he had each person in the wedding party put their hands on them and make a wish for our future.”

The reception took place in the Woodwalk Gallery’s spacious, historic barn, a rustic space that provided the couple with a blank canvas to make their own. Using a color palette of petal pink, mint and gold, the pair transformed the venue into the picture of glamour and elegance. Sequin-studded table runners, mercury glass accents, gilded cutlery and glitter-flecked chargers added a refined edge to the room, while fluffy arrangements of peonies, flickering candlelight and whimsical script table numbers filled the room with romance and life.rn
Katherine and Kevin ended dinner on a sweet note with a cake from Cake & Cookie Bakery. The blush pink confection featured three layers, the third of which was decorated with hundreds of small ombre ruffles. A single pink flower adorned the second tier and a whimsical Happily Ever After decoration from Better Off Wed was the finishing touch.
