A Rustic, Beach Wedding at Sunset Ranch in O'ahu, Hawaii
Amy Young (30 and a high school teacher) and Craig Teal (30 and a financial analyst) met online through plentyoffish.com. They met at the Amsterdam Ale House on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and immediately began dating. For a Valentine's Day gift, Craig made reservations at a a bed and breakfast in the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. They spent the weekend visiting wineries, hiking and exploring. On one of the hikes, they had a picnic by a waterfall where Craig popped the question! The couple chose to have the wedding at Sunset Ranch on the North Shore of O'ahu because they wanted an outdoor wedding overlooking Waimea Valley and the Pacific Ocean. To partner with the beach atmosphere, Amy and Craig chose a coral and teal color palette seen in the bridesmaid dresses and floral bouquets. To add a unique touch to the wedding, Amy and Craig made custom table numbers that highlighted special family members with mini biographies on each card. With a light rain shower during the ceremony, the couple chose to have the reception inside a nearby barn. This provided shelter to the wedding party and guests after the pacific-asian fusion dinner when the power went out due to torrential rain and wind. When it seemed like the night was to be cut short, one of the bridesmaids organized the guests to shine the light from their cell phones onto the dance floor so the bride and groom could have their first dance. As the couple began dancing, Craig's mother starting singing "You Are My Sunshine" and the guests joined in to accompany the magical experience. To continue the music, one of the guests brought his guitar into the barn and sang "Let It Be" with his son a capella. "After that, the ranch was able to start a generator to turn on one of the chandeliers and speakers so we could enjoy the rest of the evening," says Amy.
