A Rustic Outdoor Wedding at a Private Residence in Rising Sun, Indiana
John and Amber Prater, both 22-year-old students, married in an outdoor wedding on the bride's family farm in Rising Sun, Indiana. The couple first met at a mutual friend's house at their university and quickly began dating. "I had a crush on him the second I saw him," Amber says. Nine months later, John proposed. The couple chose to have the wedding at the bride's parents house because it provided the perfect rustic setting. The style for the celebration was a mixture of Mumford & Sons and "The Great Gatsby." "It was vintage meets rustic, a folksy 1920s," Amber says. "Our color palette was mint and pink, which were my favorite colors at the time." Following the outdoor ceremony, the wedding's 150 guests retreated to the tent reception where they were served a backyard barbecue-style dinner of barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese and potato salad, all home-made by family members. Cake and cupcakes were served for dessert, and guests had access to a fire pit and s'mores after the sun went down. Although not everything went according to plan (the DJ showed up two hours late), the bride and groom made the best of it. "Weddings are fun, but in the end, all that matters is that you are choosing to spend your life with someone you love," Amber says.
