A Rustic Orchard Wedding at Bennett's Orchard in Ottawa Lake, Michigan
Ashley Ovall (30 and a finance administrator) first spotted Corey Ovall (27 and an ironworker) at a local sports bar and restaurant they both frequented. After telling her best friend, who happened to work there, that she thought one of the regulars was cute, it wasn’t long before the two started catching each other’s eye on the regular. One night Corey decided to take the plunge and made his move, striking up a casual conversation with Ashley. They hit it off, but parted ways without exchanging phone numbers. “We had a nice conversation that night, but then both went our separate ways,” says Ashley. “So, after that night, I guess you could say I ‘MySpace stalked’ him! I sent Corey a message and he replied shortly after with his phone number, telling me to give him a call. We began talking and hanging out every day and the rest is history!” It wasn’t long before Corey decided to pop the question, surprising Ashley with a proposal in front of all of their family and friends at his family’s apple orchard. For their wedding, the couple decided to host the affair at the very spot where Corey proposed, Bennett’s Orchard in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. “It was already a special place for us and it’s gorgeous in the fall,” says Ashley. Drawing inspiration from the wedding’s locale, the couple decided on a rustic theme with romantic undertones. A color palette of ivory, blush, raspberry and grey was woven throughout the ceremony and reception, translating into fresh bunches of dahlias, garden roses and spray roses dotting the ceremony aisles, hanging from the apple tree under which Ashley and Corey exchanged vows and filling the rustic mason jar centerpieces for the reception. The couple made the majority of the décor themselves, including the hand-painted wooden boxes for the centerpieces, wood slab accents, the decorative ceremony doors and painted wine bottles that were incorporated throughout. As a nod to the locale, Ashley and Corey served a signature cider drink and hot apple cider doughnuts during cocktail hour. Guests noshed on an assortment of sweet treats like cookies, bear claws and cupcakes before checking out the reception’s two photo booths and hitting the dance floor.
