A Rustic Mountaintop Wedding at Alpenglow Lodge in Anchorage, Alaska

Jenna Nicols and Halvor Norris met while skiing with mutual friends, so getting hitched at a ski resort was an obvious choice for the adventurous pair. The festivities unfolded with a mountaintop ceremony that saw Jenna and Halvor say “I do” against a backdrop of snowcapped peaks and grassy rolling hills. “We wanted incredible views and a laid-back atmosphere for our guests,” Jenna says. The pair let nature take center stage during the ceremony, keeping the decorative extras to a minimum. “Getting to the top of the mountain was probably one of the most special parts of the day, especially because I had never been up there before,” Jenna says. “The views of the mountains are breathtaking, and you can see Anchorage and the water.” After exchanging vows, the newlyweds were escorted to the reception at the Alpenglow Lodge by chairlift. Wood skis, snow shoes and exposed wood beams established a cozy mountain theme for the evening, with suspended paper lanterns and white linens mimicking freshly fallen snow. As a nod to their roots, the pair also hung up Canadian, American and Norwegian flags. Even the music and the menu embodied the day’s rustic vibe. Fiddle-heavy tunes filled the air during the ceremony, and guests noshed on Moose’s Tooth Pizza, cider and Moscow mules during dinner. “Plan your wedding how you and your partner want it, because the day goes by so fast and you don’t want to spend a single minute doing something that is not important to you. And don’t forget to have fun!” the couple advises.
