A Rustic Modern Wedding at the Chicago Illuminating Company in Chicago, Illinois

In search of a rustic aesthetic that felt slightly modern, Elizabeth Bolyard (33 and an attorney) and Daniel Moore (29 and a tax accountant) worked closely with their planner to pull off a romantic party filled with eye-catching purple accents.

Potted plants and candle-filled lanterns dotted the outdoor courtyard, while silver chiavari chairs dressed up the indoor reception space. Mercury glass votives topped each dinner table, along with wood planters filled with a fresh mix of dahlias, hydrangeas, garden roses, succulents and anemones.

The couple was immediately drawn to the historic space thanks to the gallery’s modern feel juxtaposed with the Chicago Illuminating Company’s classic charm. “The courtyard that connects the two venues reminded us of being in Italy,” Elizabeth says. “We loved the fact that we could have three distinct atmospheres in one location.”

After witnessing Elizabeth and Daniel exchange vows under a weathered wood canopy, guests escaped from the rain and retreated indoors to feast on brisket, cheddar grits, lobster quesadillas and truffle mac and cheese. For dessert, the couple served up various bite-size sweets in lieu of a traditional cake.
