A Rustic, Laid-Back, Farm Wedding at a Private Residence in Cuba, New York

Beth Bishop (26, a stay-at-home mom) met her sister's friend, James Simon (31, a director of sustainability) for the first time during a water balloon fight at Bidwell Park in Buffalo, New York. But it wasn't exactly love at first water balloon—it took a few group activities before something started to develop between them. Things changed a couple of weeks later when Jim walked her home from a bar and they stayed up all night talking on her front porch. A few years later Jim proposed at the summit of Camel's Hump in Vermont in the pouring rain and 40 mile per hour winds. "He got down on one knee and yelled over the wind with a wedding ring tied to his finger with a piece of floss so he wouldn't drop it!" recalls Beth. When it came to planning their wedding, Jim's 300-acre family farm outside of Cuba, New York (their favorite place) was an easy choice of setting. After all, they had been talking about getting married there for the past year. Committed to sharing all the things they love most about the property with their guests, Beth and Jim worked hard to maintain its laid-back, casual feel. Guests were invited to camp out for the weekend! The result was a charming, easy-going affair full of quirky farm details and repurposed finds, tied together by shades of coral and mint.
