A Rustic Glam Wedding at Misty Farm in Ann Arbor, Michigan
New-York based couple Jessica (31 and a senior marketing manager) and Justin (37 and a marketing director) returned to the bride's home state of Michigan for their spring wedding in Ann Arbor. "We met at work and he proposed early on a Sunday at his apartment by gifting me a winter jacket...in March!", Jessica says. "I didn't actually need a coat since it was warm, but he insisted that I try it on and put my hands in the pockets to make sure it fit. Inside one of the pockets was the ring." The two then proceeded to plan an elegant, farm-to-table wedding at the family-owned Misty Farm with 180 guests. After the couple tied the knot at a local parish in Canton, the wedding party and guests were treated to a posh cocktail hour on the farm's lawn before dinner under a tent and dancing in the property's barn. "It was rustic in the sense that it was outdoors and home-like," Jessica says. "We rented beautiful furniture to make everything feel cozy and I crafted until my hands hurt." Modern, feminine elements were interwoven throughout the farm's open space, including gold and white sequined tablecloths and sparkly DIY bar signs. The couple even framed wedding photos from their respective families and displayed them at the reception while a close friend printed a custom thank you graphic that was hung up in the cocktail area. "We had an outline of the state of Michigan printed on some tote bags and inside were our favors -- handmade coasters wrapped in brown paper and a bow," Jessica explains. "We even created lists of local restaurants and worked with the Ann Arbor Tourism Board to send us brochures of the town that were included in the thank you bags." The following day, the newlyweds and their guests wrapped up the weekend with breakfast at the farm. "I think what reflected us best as a couple was that we tried to put together an entire weekend for our guests that made them feel like our immediate family," the bride says. "Living in New York, we don't get the chance to see everyone as often as we'd like, so it was very special to have everyone at the same place to celebrate our marriage."
