A Rustic Fall Wedding at Lutsen Resort on Lake Superior in Minnesota

After years of traveling to the North Shore and a proposal there in 2016, Kaitlin Sundberg (30 and a marketing account manager) and Levi Lowell (30 and a senior graphic designer) knew it’d be the place they’d tie the knot. “The beauty and awe of the big lake is unmatched,” Kaitlin says. Levi illustrated the save-the-dates, inviting guests to the Lutsen Resort for a ceremony overlooking Lake Superior. The pair wed under a greenery-filled arbor, where Kaitlin’s brother led the ceremony, which included hand-fasting, a Celtic tradition in which a couple’s right hands are tied together to symbolize devotion and connection. The pair then recessed to the Irish “Killavil Jig.” Folk music and a finale of Swedish Cream with lingonberries, a nod to Kaitlin’s roots, followed. Eucalyptus made for a natural table runner and marked each place. Social hour included lawn games, appetizers with local trout, beer from Castle Danger Brewing and rosé from North Shore Winery. “The lodge’s warm rusty red and hand-hewn wood beams created the best theme of all—nature in its truest form,” Kaitlin says. Subdued earth tones, deep red-wine dahlias, soft peach roses and eucalyptus filled the reception, where guests kept cozy in flannel blankets.
