Kayla (23 and a registered nurse) and Alex (24 and a worship minister) met at the Baptist Campus Ministry at the University of Kentucky. They remained close friends through college until Alex moved back home and three and a half hours away, where they had to result to text and phone call conversation. Their long distance friendship eventually led to a dinner date after a college basketball game, but Kayla thought they were better off remaining friends while Alex lived so far away--that is, until their second date not long after. A little over a year later, Kayla graduated and Alex moved back to Lexington for his first job. In late April, after a date to the Newport Aquarium, Alex led Kayla on a walk to a nearby bridge, where he pulled out a lock engraved with their initials. They locked it to a bridge and threw the keys in the river before Alex pulled out a book with an engagement ring inside it. Just six months later, Kayla and Alex were married in Alex's family church, Dripping Spring Baptist Church in Russellville, Kentucky, followed by a cozy reception at Sugar Grove Carriage House.

Kayla fastened her modest birdcage veil over her wavy, relaxed half-up hairstyle with a small, floral hair comb.
Kayla's bouquet was comprised of white hydrangeas, blush-colored roses, and large, bold, eggplant-colored blooms, which tied into the bridesmaid dresses. The bouquet was tied with white silk and a lace swatch from the fabric of her wedding dress.

Kayla wore an elegant fitted, v-neck, 3/4 sleeve dress with lace overlay and a long train, explaining, "I wanted a classic and tasteful look--something that was timeless."
The bridesmaids all wore bright purple, mismatched, short dresses from J. Crew, which they paired with the same chunky peach beaded necklaces, gray heels, and variations of the same wispy updo.
Alex accessorized his gray wedding suit with a pair of monogrammed cufflinks that Kayla had given him for his last birthday and a watch she gave him as a wedding present.
Alex's groomsmen wore matching charcoal suits with robin's egg blue, patterned bow ties. In an effort to stand apart, Alex instead wore a lavender tie with thin white stripes to match the purple color scheme.
During the ceremony, Alex and Kayla set aside time to take their first communion together as husband and wife, commemorating their religious faith and unwavering commitment to one another and God.
