A Rustic DIY Wedding at The Observatory at Alta Lakes in Telluride, Colorado
Phoenix Aberle (26 and an interior design student) and Devon Svejcar (26 and works in human resources) met in middle school, but didn’t start dating until college. Devon proposed in Hawaii at Haiku Stairs also known as the Stairway to Heaven. The Observatory at Alta Lakes (at 11,300 feet) was the perfect venue for the adventurous couple. They exchanged vows surrounded by trees and overlooking the lake. The bride’s brother made the music for the ceremony, which included the song “Hey Brother” by Avicii for the wedding party processional since they were all of the couple’s siblings. “My brother is a musician and inserted our siblings speeches into the song so when each person walked down the aisle, their voice recording was playing through the song,” Phoenix says. “It was the coolest, most touching piece of our ceremony.” Afterwards, Phoenix and Devon served homemade sangria, homemade Italian food and an ice cream bar for dessert. The ended the night dancing under the stars.
