A Rustic Country Wedding at American Legion in Topeka, Kansas
Christy Bruna (21 and a bank teller) and Austin Steinfort (22 and a student in agricultural education) met in high school. Austin proposed in the hay loft on their farm. The couple had a traditional Catholic ceremony for their wedding in Christy’s hometown. “We chose the church because God is a part of our lives and we wanted the church's blessing on our wedding,” she says. They wanted the day to be a celebration, nothing too formal, so guests released balloons in the wedding colors after the ceremony. As a town tradition, Christy and Austin climbed the town’s bell tower after the wedding to ring the bell, just like their parents and grandparents had done before them. The couple used royal blue and green for their color palette and added shades of tan and gray throughout the decor. However, the lush wildflower floral arrangements were shades of blue, yellow and orange for a fun pop of color. At the reception, the couple served homemade wine, which they made especially for their wedding. At the end of the night, they made sure both families were represented through the wedding favors. As farmers, their families are loyal to a certain tractor brand. Austin’s is John Deere and Christy’s is Case Agriculture. In honor of that, the koozies said, “On this day, we’ll agree to disagree,” with each tractor brand on brand, their names and the date.
