A Rustic Chic Winter Wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado
With the help of some mutual friends and a few cocktails, Charlotte Lockhart (28 and a therapist) and Jeffrey Margulies (30 and in private equity) met "the old-fashioned way—at a bar,” Jeff says. The pair hosted a rustic yet chic mountain wedding in the Civil War-era barn of Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado. Since the location had extreme sentimental value for Charlotte and Jeff, it was fitting that they got married in the mountains. “It’s where we feel most at home and at our best,” Charlotte says. “We got engaged on the top of the mountain in Breckenridge, watching the sunrise after we skied up in the dark. We wanted to share that environment with all our friends and family.” Whites, greens, natural-wood tones and dove blue took the forefront for the soft palette, which matched the surrounding wilderness. Guests cozied up in the romantic candlelit barn draped in billowing linens and dined on authentic Colorado fare, including local bison and trout. The barn’s massive wall of windows offered a view of the falling snow, which was the backdrop for Charlotte and Jeff’s nuptials and part of their picturesque reception. Jeff and his groomsmen sported funky Southwestern-style J.Crew socks to reflect the mountain feel; they all carried monogrammed pocket knives given by Jeff. For an added rustic feel, the ring bearers carried a raw-edge wooden box made from a tree branch with the couple's initials and wedding date on it. Charlotte and Jeff thoughtfully put together welcome bags for guests that included details about the weekend, a bottle of water, some snacks, sunscreen, chapstick “and a hangover kit—think Tums, Advil and Emergen-C,” Charlotte says. —Juliette Cheatham
