A Rustic-Chic Wedding at The Barn at Shady Lane in Bessemer, Alabama

Surrounded by family and friends, Katie Renshaw (23 and a sales and campaign coordinator) and Caleb Hoyle (26 and a teacher and coach) tied the knot at The Barn at Shady Lane in Bessemer, Alabama. Their rustic-chic wedding took inspiration from the venue and their Southern heritage. “I wanted a mixture of chic and Southern. I'm proud to be from the South, so I wanted that Southern feel without cowboy overload,” Katie says. “I chose The Barn at Shady Lane because it was the perfect rustic barn that I could dress up to give it the modern flare I wanted.” Katie and Caleb brought their barn ceremony to life with white drapery, lanterns, tulips and rustic signs embellished with their favorite Bible verses. Before their ceremony, Katie and Caleb sent their pastor a list of things they love about each other. “Caleb and I had no clue what the other would say,” Katie says. “This was both touching and funny.” After the ceremony, the space was flipped for their reception. Tables were topped with lush greenery, lanterns and romantic candles. “The room was still swept with gorgeous white drapery, but the ceremony backdrop was tied back to reveal the band,” Katie says. The newlyweds served pizza from Post Office Pies, pasta and Caesar salad for dinner. “This gave our wedding the Birmingham flare we wanted,” Katie says. “We kept our food casual so people could dine at their leisure and get to the dance floor!” —Marissa Hermanson
