A Rustic-Chic Wedding at Dana-Powers House in Nipomo, California
rn It was important to Kathryn Pomroy (28 and a nursing student) and AJ McGregor (29 and a teacher) to plan a rustic wedding that was both classic and tasteful. The barn at Dana-Powers House's mix of rustic and antique details immediately appealed to Kathryn's love for vintage things, making it an easy choice for their wedding venue. They decorated in neutral colors, burlap brown and soft peach throughout the flowers and tables, then added a hint of mint green with the bridesmaid dresses, men's ties, and small accents throughout. "I chose this color because of my husband's blue eyes—he looks so handsome when he wears shades that make his eyes stand out," she says. Kathryn accessorized her cap-sleeve lace gown with a pair of teal wedges under her dress, so she could stand a little taller next to her 6-foot-4 husband. For her something borrowed she wore a handmade veil one of her bridesmaids had word for her wedding. Because Kathryn and AJ don't like cake, they served their favorite dessert instead: milk and cookies. "A lot of people questioned why we weren't having a cake and cake cutting," Kathryn says. "I worried that we should go the traditional route, but in the end the cookies ended up being our biggest hit." —Meghan Overdeep
