A Rustic Chic Summer Wedding at Gorge Crest Vineyards in Underwood, Washington

Kate Schaeffer (27 and a retail manager) and Heathrow Andrews’s (26 and self-employed) wedding was more than a celebration of their union, it was an opportunity to showcase their love for the Pacific Northwest, their home. A summer soiree was a given, allowing the couple to make the most of the region’s breathtaking beauty, good weather and a bounty of fresh, local produce. Gorge Crest Vineyards in Underwood, Washington provided the ultimate setting for the event, with it’s unparalleled views of the Columbia River Gorge, Hood River Valley and Mt. Hood.

The pair kept the decor to a minimum, allowing their guests to fully appreciate the natural landscape. Two wine barrels topped with seasonal blooms, a nod to the vineyard setting, framed Kate and Heathrow as they exchanged vows, while hundreds of wildflowers swaying in the breeze provided a striking backdrop for the couple’s “I do’s.” “Heathrow’s best man’s mother performed the ceremony, which made it even more special, and she helped us announce that we were both changing our last names to a new one we had created to honor my late father,” says Kate.

The reception was an elegant brunch affair, complete with Bloody Marys, cold brew coffee and a delicious spread of classic breakfast dishes. Bundles of eucalyptus and wildflowers in soft shades of ivory and blush topped each table and were styled alongside love-themed quotes in decorative white frames. The newlyweds and their guests enjoyed dancing and lawn games after the meal, and when they needed to rest their dancing feet, headed to the couple’s selfie station to strike a pose.

A tip for the taking from Kate: “Don’t be afraid to make choices that you want just because they aren’t traditional or might make a family member question it. This your day, so don’t be afraid to make it how you want it.”
