A Rustic Barn Wedding with a Vintage Twist at Canyon Run Ranch in Pleasant Hill, Ohio

When visiting Canyon Run Ranch in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, walk through the white linens draped over the barn’s open doors and witness the wooden interior decorated with twinkling lights and chandeliers made of mason jars. This rustic charm won over Heather Hochstrasser (25 and an engineer) and Mike Hodge (25 and a marketing writer), who had already visited before and immediately knew the area was perfect for their vintage-style wedding. Heather and Mike were married outside at the venue, with a backdrop of white linens draped from wooden ladders; it was captured on camera by Blink of an Eye Photography. Heather and her bridesmaids held bouquets of bright orange lilies mixed with blue thistle, which created pops of color against their white, brown and navy blue dresses. At the reception inside the barn, guests took their seats at burlap-covered tables with orange lily centerpieces, matching the bouquets used earlier in the day. At every table, small canvas squares were displayed on miniature easels, which was painted in different colors and patterns. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Heather and Mike ordered a giant doughnut iced with white frosting baked by Bill's Donut Shop, in addition to several smaller doughnuts for guests to enjoy. What we loved most was the fun assortment of bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen apparel that resulted from the wedding party getting to pick their attire for the day, as long as they chose within the three colors picked by Heather and Mike. "Overall, we think our laid-back approach to the day, and allowing the outdoors to guide our design choices, allowed us to celebrate our wedding as a reflection of our outlook on life—both now and for the future," the couple says.
