A Rustic At-Home Wedding in Summerville, South Carolina

Lyndy Gallagher, 27, a clinical ophthalmologist, and Justin Carpenter, 29, an arborist met through mutual friends after Justin, a New Hampshire transplant, moved to Charleston. A year later Justin proposed and the two got to planning an intimate outdoor wedding for their closet family and friends. The couple, lovers of the outdoors, knew immediately that they wanted to have their ceremony and reception outdoors. Long time friends of the Lyndy and Justin own a beautifully restored 200-year-old-home in Summerville, SC, just outside Charleston and offered to host the affair. The perfectly landscaped lawn was the site of the ceremony, the couple exchanging vows under a romantic wedding arch decorated with lush vines and dainty flowers picked fresh from the historic property. An evening full of dinner and dancing followed in the quaint backyard of the property. From the rustic burlap, lace and floral centerpieces to the chalkboard and wood signs and charms that decorated each of the wine glasses, all of the day's details were handmade by the Lyndy, Justin and Lyndy's family, with a bit of help from a family friend who happens to be a florist. Lyndy's mother prepared all of the food for the hors d'oeuvres-based reception, which included everything from vegetable crudités to quiche and antipasti. The couple opted out of wedding cake, serving up an array of homemade desserts, like truffles, pies and an assortment of bars instead — perfect for the relaxed, rustic feel of the event.
