A Rustic At-Home Wedding at a Private Residence in Big Timber, Montana
Ashley Tomer (28 and a registered nurse) and Andrew Smith (27 and a civil engineer) met playing ice hockey in an adult intramural league in Montana. After dating for a few years, they moved to New Jersey for Andy to go to school, and he proposed in New York City. Wanting guests to feel at home, they chose to have their wedding in Andy’s parents’ backyard. “We really wanted the focus of the day to be on us being with our family and friends in one special place,” Ashley says. “We had a large pole outside of the reception tent that included signs with mileage from every town that each guest had travelled from. We had guests from each corner of the United States and really wanted to draw attention to the amount of time and miles that everyone travelled.” Wanting a simple, but classic, wedding, the couple used shades of yellow, purple and green throughout the wedding accented with wood and burlap for a little rustic flair. They worked with Budget Bouquet and More to create the lush wildflower floral arrangements that brought the outside in. Instead of a wedding cake, Ashley and Andy served chocolate chip cookies, brownies and ice cream for dessert. Wanting to be super local, guests went home with a honey bear filled with honey that was harvested from bees kept on the ranch.
