A Rooftop Wedding at SkyDeck in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Amber Manning (28 and a teacher) and Adam French (30 and also a teacher) imagined a unique space for their summer wedding. When they found SkyDeck, a rooftop bar in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Loft 310, located in the same building, they knew they'd found their ceremony and reception venues. "I wanted a classic and clean wedding, with some glamorous touches," Amber says. Amber's white gown with an intricate, beaded neckline inspired the wedding's mod-meets-glam theme. The couple worked from a palette of silver, blush and navy. The rooftop bar, outfitted in an futuristic white tent, offered guests sweeping, panoramic views of the city, while the loft's chandeliers and sequined table runners added a dazzling element to the day. Other shining moments? Bubbles filled the air after the newlyweds said "I do," and the cake, created by friend Debbie Carson, included a tier of silvery sweetness.

There were lots of DIY crafts at the reception, like the photo booth that the couple engineered using an iPad and some piping, and the silk-flower pomanders that Amber's mother used to make centerpieces. Perhaps the sweetest parts of the ceremony were the ones that reflected Amber and Adam as a couple. The wrapping on Amber's bouquet was a piece of lace cut from her mother's wedding dress, and the charm pin was a gift from her sister-in-law. At the reception, their engagement photos were framed on one side of the room, while photos from their parents', grandparents' and siblings' weddings hung from a string on the other. Amber's main takeaway from planning her wedding is to just have fun with it. "I feel like my husband and I chose every part of our wedding to fit the things we liked and who we were, and it turned out great," she says. —Alexa Wybraniec
