A Romantic Winter Wedding at DeKalb County Courthouse in Decatur, Georgia

Just outside Atlanta in Decatur, Georgia, the DeKalb County Courthouse was the perfect venue for Sydney Chicoine (27 and a server and event coordinator) and Dustin Yancy (27 and a paramedic) to throw their black-tie wedding. “Dustin and I spend so much of our time in downtown Decatur. We love the neighborhood, bars and restaurants. The feel of our wedding was classic and vintage, so the DeKalb County Courthouse was the perfect backdrop,” Sydney says of the stately venue. A color scheme of burgundy, purple, blush, sage green and ivory was embellished with lush greenery, romantic blooms and gold accents. “The feel was very romantic—an abundance of florals, greenery and candlelight against the clean, marble,” Sydney says. The couple’s ceremony was understated yet chic with a stone urn filled with manzanita branches that were decorated with hanging votive candles. “We tried to keep everything simple, natural and elegant to go with the space,” Sydney says. “Dustin and I had always said that we wanted a very meaningful ceremony followed by an awesome party,” Sydney says. “DJ Brandon from Lethal Rhythms really kicked it up for the reception.” The couple made their grand entrance to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” After all, their wedding hashtag was #ImSoYancy. Sydney and Dustin had their first dance to “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” by James Taylor. When deciding on their first-dance song, Sydney asked Dustin what song made him think about their relationship. He responded naming that song. “I have been a huge fan of James since I was a little girl, so we knew it was perfect, fun and a great representation of our love,” Sydney says. —Marissa Hermanson
