A Romantic, Winter Wedding at American Village in Montevallo, Alabama

Caitlin Bice (21 and a nursing student) and Sean Handlan (24 and a general manager) met while attending Samford University. Though both Caitlin and Sean were athletes and shared similar schedules it wasn’t until halfway through the semester that the two met while out downtown with their groups of friends. The friend I was with was itching to talk to Sean’s best friend, so together we approached them,” says Caitlin. “Sean and I haven’t stopped talking since that night.” Sean proposed on a family trip to Hilton Head, SC. He planned a day of pampering for Caitlin, tell her they were going to take family photos later that day, but once the time for the “family photos” rolled around, Sean got down on one knee. “Around sunset he took me up to the top of a lighthouse, where he proposed and his brother was nearby to snap some pictures of the best moment of my life!” says Caitlin. The couple planned a classic, rustic affair at the American Village in Montevallo, AL. A traditional ceremony at the site’s stately chapel preceded a night of dinner and dancing in a historic barn. The chapel was filled with vintage lanterns and bunches of peach, pink and white blooms accented with lots of lush greenery to give the space a charming, romantic vibe. For the reception, the couple opted for a charcoal, pale pint and peach color palette to introduce a playful, feminine note to the barn’s exposed beams, wood floors and metal accents. Pinecones and evergreen highlighted the wedding’s winter date, while a scattering of candles heightened the venue’s warm, inviting ambiance.
