A Romantic, Vintage-Inspired Wedding at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, New York
Jordan Plumhoff (32 and a pharmaceutical consultant) and Adam Burgess (29 and a forensic accountant) brought a sense of history to their colorful celebration at the Metropolitan Building. They filled rooms with antique furniture and vintage jewel tones, while Jordan wore her mother’s veil and grandmother’s satin wedding dress, altered to add sleeves. “I’ll never forget my grandmother’s face when I put on her dress,” Jordan says. For their first dance, the couple chose the theme song from the British TV sketch comedy The Morecambe & Wise Show, which Adam grew up watching with his grandparents in the UK. Jordan and Adam said personal vows in front of an ivy-and-rose ceremony arch.
Jordan and Adam married in a former factory. “We loved the juxtaposition of the industrial exterior and elegant interior that was reminiscent of an English manor,” Jordan says. The couple served a cheese spread, tuna tartare and Aperol spritzes at cocktail hour. Jordan and her florist browsed the West 28th Street flower market to get inspiration for her bouquet of dahlias, zinnias, roses, hellebores, cosmos and lisianthus. The newlyweds cut into a chocolate-malt, strawberry-lemon and rainbow sprinkle cake. Guests left them snapshots from the Polaroid station.
