A Romantic, Vintage-Inspired Wedding at Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Hotel in Houston, Texas

Classic romance never goes out of style. For literature lovers and history buffs Krysten Kim (25 and a teacher) and Sam Kuo (29 and an accountant), this is exactly how their wedding unfolded—including a few touches from one of their favorite epic love stories, “Pride and Prejudice.” The Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Hotel is already an ultra-luxe venue, and set the tone for their vintage-inspired day with lavish silk draping, crystal chandeliers, stunning murals and a grand dance floor. “Lavish, elegant and rich with history, this ballroom was the ideal venue for the elegant and romantic ballroom wedding of my dreams,” Krysten says. Their wedding planner and florist, A Particular Event, created spectacular floral arrangements that evoked a garden-like feel, and enhanced the romantic ambience with a palette of blush, ivory and gold paired with vintage book boxes, framed literary love quotes and lots of candles. Krysten and Sam made sure to include their shared sweet tooth in touches throughout the day, including a cupcake thumbprint guest book, chic cookie wedding favors and a vintage-inspired wedding cake by Who Made the Cake. Another special detail? LG Entertainment played meaningful music throughout Krysten and Sam’s wedding, from Krysten’s instrumental processional to Taylor Swift (her other true love) and their ballroom reception filled with a mix of '90s jams and classic tunes. ”Although all the vintage touches, sweets and music helped make our day special, our wedding reflected us most by being centered on the things we value most,” Krysten says. “It was very important to us that our wedding be centered on our loved ones and us as a couple.” See the heartfelt details below, beautifully captured by Stefano Choi Photography.
