A Romantic, Shabby-Chic Wedding at a Private Residence in Denton, North Carolina

Ashley Fragas (24 and a physical education teacher and children’s pastor) and Scott Mason (23 and a volunteer CFO for a nonprofit organization and a children’s pastor) met at the starting line of the Krispy Kreme Challenge Race in Raleigh, North Carolina. Several months later, the couple traveled to New York City as it buzzed with winter holiday spirit, Ashley’s lifelong dream, where Scott planned an elaborate scavenger hunt that culminated in him getting down on one knee in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Ashley always knew that she wanted an outdoor ceremony in an open field, and the couple found what they were searching for at their family friend’s property. Their guests arrived at the top of a hill and a hay ride met them to take them down through lush woods to a wide open space in the middle of a field for the ceremony. They incorporated a color palette of mint, peach and cream throughout their decor, which included handmade vintage elements such as a distressed wooden door that Scott built for their ceremony and handmade bouquets and boutonnieres that the bride made from Atlas pages. “There was a very personalized, fun and shabby-chic feel to the entire day,” says Ashley. Since Scott is from England and Ashley’s family is from Hawaii, the couple incorporated a travel, culture and adventure motif in their decor. The couple painted wooden signs throughout the property to point in the direction of where their guests were from and display how many miles they had traveled to attend the wedding. The guest book was a five-foot world map where guests signed their names and labeled where in the world they wanted to see the couple travel next! Guests enjoyed an around the world-themed buffet to represent the different places Ashley and Scott are from and where they had traveled. The wedding cake, a tower of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, symbolized the day Ashley and Scott first met.
