A Romantic, Rustic Wedding at Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont
Avid skiers and natives of Vermont, Meagan Brown (30 and a sales engineer) and Dan Van Woert (31 and a product owner) could think of no spot more fitting for their early summer nuptials than Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont. The pair spent many winters growing up skiing Jay Peak’s powdery slopes, and when Dan proposed, he took Meagan to the mountain’s snow-covered peak. “He hollered, ‘Will you marry me?’ for everyone around us to hear,” Meagan says. “It was thrilling and certainly overwhelming. Even though I knew the proposal was coming, it still surprised me.” The couple planned a classic, romantic affair with subtle rustic notes that captured the essence of the locale, as well as the sentiment of the day. A palette of warm cream and blush pink hues paired with simple, elegant arrangements of roses, peonies, dusty miller and greenery to give the decor a soft, feminine feel, while birch rounds, distressed wooden vases and reclaimed vintage props spoke to the wedding’s wooded, rural landscape. The couple, with the help of their families and friends, made many of the wedding’s details themselves, which added to the day’s sentiment and personal flair. Meagan designed all the wedding’s stationery, while friends and family pitched in to make everything from the seating charts to the whimsical illuminated backdrop for the sweetheart table. Meagan and Dan also played tribute to Jay Peak throughout the day, hosting their ceremony at Garden Valley Pond overlooking the Green Mountains, taking guests to the top of the mountain for celebratory champagne and even having friends and family write their well wishes on a pair of antique skis. Some tips from Meagan: “Don't sweat the small stuff; it's all small stuff. And that goes for your wedding day too, all the details and execution—don't worry! It will all be great. Also, be kind and appreciate the time spent with your other half. You are getting married for a reason; don't forget how much you love each other. Enjoy every day for what it is.”
