A Rustic-Chic Wedding at The Barn at Smugglers' Notch in Cambridge, Vermont
Katherine Prescott and Vin Vacanti put Vermont’s natural beauty on show with a romantic barn wedding in the foothills of the Green Mountains. “We wanted our wedding design to showcase the best of what Vermont has to offer in terms of beautiful, unobstructed mountain views and unique-to-Vermont charm,” Katherine says. An alfresco ceremony and cocktail hour fit the bill, providing guests with unparalleled views of the forest-covered Mount Mansfield. To balance the setting’s organic, rustic edge, the couple kept the décor bright and modern. Panels of airy white fabric hung from the rafters of the barn, and tablescapes were topped with elegant gray ceramic dinnerware and metallic accents. The lush, textured florals had a decidedly romantic feel and were inspired by 19th-century European still-life paintings. As a fun, festive touch, Katherine and Vin outfitted the dance floor with a canopy of sparkling disco balls intertwined with string lights. After dinner, a sliding barn door was rolled back to reveal the party-ready scene. “My dad is an exceptional violinist, and Vin had the idea to have him play our first dance song, which was ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis,” Katherine says. “He played the lead violin and was backed up by a string quartet. We did the first dance outside as the sun was setting—it was so incredibly beautiful.” Midway through the song, guests joined the newlyweds, and after dinner, everyone kicked off an energetic, floor-stomping, fist-pumping dance party with tunes provided by Generation Events.
