A Romantic Pink and Gold Wedding at the Sutherland in Wake Forest, North Carolina

With its sprawling house, wraparound porch and magnolia trees, it's no wonder why Bethany Headrick (28 and a marketing specialist) and Matt Howe (28 and a graduate student) chose the Sutherland in Wake Forest, North Carolina, for their romantic nuptials. “The ceremony was outdoors in the walled garden and the reception was in an open-air pavilion on the grounds,” Bethany says. “I wanted my wedding to have a Southern plantation feel, which the Sutherland was perfect for.” Gorgeous garden details filled the space with florals setting the tone starting on all the stationery and seamlessly flowing through the stunning bouquets and even accenting the chalkboard signs. We love that Bethany and Matt weren’t afraid to incorporate their personalities into their day, such as the recessional to “The Throne Room” from “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” which was performed by Matt’s aunt. They also enjoyed a banana pudding cake from Ashley Cakes and served cupcakes and a DIY sundae bar to guests. Another standout detail? The ultra-local touches, such as the barbecue dinner and local microbrew beers. Bethany and Matt also gave guests Cheerwine (cherry soda), eastern North Carolina barbecue sauce and Krispy Kreme doughnuts—all of which started in the Old North State. There are so many details we love—see them all, beautifully captured by Emily March Photography, below.
