A Romantic Low Country Wedding at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
Allison Tausek (30 and a director of operations for a small government contractor) and Trevor Jennings (36 and an account manager at a software company) celebrated their nuptials with a black-tie affair at Boone Hall Plantation’s cotton dock in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. “We live down the street, and we go there for a lot of events, so it was already a part of our lives,” Allison says. “We loved the idea of getting married somewhere that we could easily go back to.” Allison and Trevor brought their wedding to life with luxe decor and a jewel-tone palette. “I loved the juxtaposition of rich decor within a rustic venue,” she says. Allison and Trevor exchanged vows in front of the cotton dock’s rustic doors, and rather than decorating the outdoor space, they let nature speak for itself. “The ceremony ended up being the absolute best part of the day,” she says. “We wrote our own script and made our own traditions.” Trevor’s uncle officiated, and Allison surprised Trevor with a wedding band made from his grandfather’s gold. “Our officiant had everyone raise their glasses and for a toast to Trevor and me,” she says. “Our guests went wild, cheering and whistling, and it was one of the best moments of my life: looking out at all the people who mean the world to us, supporting us in such a fun way.” To avoid flooding during high tide, the couple had to flip their ceremony space with the cocktail hour space, which was held on the dock. Before the ceremony, guests sipped sangria and mojitos and ate Low Country classics like shrimp and grits, deviled eggs, duck confit sliders and a charcuterie. Trevor's father’s seafood company, Wanchese Fish Company, provided scallops for dinner, which were served with Champagne risotto and mushrooms. Another course of coq au vin, short ribs with celery root and chive puree, along with portobello Napoleon, was served. Snacks included refreshing ice pops from King of Pops. During the reception, the band We Got the Beat got the party started. “We chose them as our band because they also have an alter ego band called Girlz Girlz Girlz, which is an ’80s band.” Halfway through the reception, the couple surprised guests with an ’80s rock concert. “Our guests were super surprised when the band came back out after their break in full ’80s rock attire and we started handing out blow-up guitars, neon fingerless gloves, blow-up boom boxes, microphones and neon shutter shades. It added a whole new party element to the wedding that people had never seen before.” —Marissa Hermanson
