A Romantic, Industrial Wedding at the District Winery in Washington, DC

First falling for the warm and intimate feeling of Brooklyn Winery years ago, Stephanie Williams (40 and a management company partner) and Rustin Moore (36 and an asset manager) felt certain its sister space, District Winery, wouldn’t disappoint. In fact, the couple booked the venue while the space was still under construction. The pair aimed for a “balance of casual and comfortable tied together with sophistication and class,” Stephanie says. “We were happy to find a venue in the heart of the District with gorgeous city views of the Potomac River and the quintessential DC monuments." Wine hues used in the bride’s bouquet of peonies, astilbe, roses, dusty miller, thistle, hydrangeas and scabiosa nodded to the winery venue. Candlelight and ivory and blush accents set a relaxed, romantic scene. Low arrangements with hydrangeas, scabiosa, Queen Anne’s lace, millet and seeded eucalyptus filled hammered votives and cleared the way for “sightseeing” from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a ceremony that included gospel songs sung by family friends, guests moved to a jazz-filled cocktail hour, then sat down for a fried chicken dinner. Wine bottles filled with baby’s breath and other wild flowers made for an on-theme escort display. The two chose fan favorites for their cake and ice cream flavors: vanilla, boozy eggnog, salted caramel and cookie dough.
