A Romantic, Garden-Inspired Wedding at a Private Residence in Grosse Ile, Michigan

Megan Mapes and Eddie Churches’s picture-perfect summer wedding was the perfect blend of classic elegance and bohemian flair.

The pair started with a color palette of blush and neutral hues, then wove in natural wood elements and lush, romantic blooms to soften the stately feel of the setting. “In addition to the bouquets and centerpieces, our florist created the most amazing floral arch for the ceremony and a gorgeous and unique installation that hung over the head table at the reception,” Megan says.

While the poolside ceremony had a decidedly English garden vibe, the décor during cocktail hour was all about sophistication and clean lines. Guests were invited to sip cocktails on sleek wood lounge furniture topped with fabric and acrylic materials, and hand-rolled sushi was served on modern white platters arranged on wood blocks.

The reception saw return of the wild, bohemian aesthetic, with bouquets of anemones, wildflowers and fresh greenery surrounded by gray taper candles topping the tables. Even the cake played into the theme, featuring a long vine studded with sugar flowers and hand-painted floral fondant.

Having been together since high school, Megan and Eddie wanted to include details that commemorated some of the fun experiences they had together throughout their relationship—photos highlighting some of their favorites were put on display during cocktail hour. “We also had an anniversary dance where all of the married couples were invited to dance at the reception," Megan says. "Throughout the song, the DJ asked couples to continue dancing if they had been married past a certain number of years. We knew my grandparents would be the last couple standing, and we surprised them with a bouquet and boutonniere of daisies, the flowers they had at their wedding."
