A Romantic Flower-Filled Wedding at The Waterworks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Kate Savage (28 and a physician) was first attracted to Nate Belkin (28 and also a physician) in part due to his “sun-tanned, backwards-baseball-cap-wearing, preppy look,” Kate says. The two met as student athletes at Amherst College, but nearly 10 years later, got engaged in Philadelphia, the city they now call home. As soon as the couple toured Water Works, they were attracted to just how Philly it felt while still giving them room to make it their own. “We were instantly wowed by the location, situated between two Philadelphia landmarks,” Kate says. Having a nondenominational ceremony on-site allowed them the chance to “tell our story while blending our cultural backgrounds,” Kate says. They also included preppy touches, tributes to their college sports and a purple cloth for their hand-tying ceremony, in honor of Amherst’s colors.
Confetti showered down on the couple as they exited to the tune of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” by Stevie Wonder.
Kate carried astilbe, roses, dahlias, and mums, all in shades of pink.
Arches of greenery covered with campanula, dahlias, roses and waxflowers added a slightly whimsical touch to both the ceremony and reception.
Inspired by Kate and Nate’s love of their respective country club sports, the pair directed guests to their seats with tennis- and golf-inspired cards. The same sports also inspired the signature drinks: Kate’s Sweet Spot, a gin, rosé and lemon juice cocktail, and Nate’s 19th Hole, a bourbon and cranberry juice concoction.
Kate and Nate wanted something “modern, preppy and classic with a bit of whimsy,” Kate says. Hanging greenery installations, cozy lounge furniture and bright pops of color brought that combination to life. Boxwood greenery marked tables for guests, who sat down to a main course of filet mignon, chilean sea bass or rack of lamb.
To find their spots, guests held onto circular acrylic cards painted with calligraphy.
Blending each of their cultural backgrounds was important to Kate and Nate, so the couple chose to honor Nate’s Jewish heritage by surprising guests with the hora after their first dance to “Love is a Verb” by John Mayer.
