A Romantic, Classic Wedding at Planterra Conservatory in Detroit, Michigan
For their wedding venue, Lulu and Kevin wanted, "a floral and green space. Planterra Conservatory in Detroit has been voted one of the best wedding venues in America. Close to Lulu's childhood home, it was the obvious choice. As a greenhouse, Planterra is designed to allocate maximum lighting, so we wanted to take advantage of the space. The color palette we chose helped to accent each other in natural lighting and in a green space. Overall, we wanted to present an environment that mirrored the spring outdoors.”
To complement their greenhouse venue, the couple’s design aesthetic was, "a romantic spring wedding style. Colors that are in the red and pink category are also auspicious in Chinese culture so we wanted to stick with something a lot of our guests would appreciate. We wanted something vibrant but not overbearing. The bride's favorite flowers are peonies so we included coral charm peonies with other flowers such as princess charlene rose, romantic antike, juliet, mother of pearl and white ranunculus. We also wanted it to look classic and rich so we added gold candelabra' and compotes. The ceremony arbor was made out of birch with hand white florals and a beautiful arch of flowers that aligned with our wedding palette. The men's boutonnieres were coral hypericum and white ranunculus that matched the bridesmaids' peach dresses. The bridesmaids' bouquets were a smaller version of the brides' bouquet.”
Beyond ensuring their Detroit, Michigan, wedding at Planterra Conservatory was visually stunning, Lulu and Kevin made sure to fill their celebration with plenty of unique, personalized details. "One of our favorite details was the guest book, which was created to match our flower palette. Our ushers captured polaroid pictures of the guests on arrival. Each entry in the guest book was highlighted by a picture of the guests. It was a unique way to document the special moment. My other favorite personalization were the golden popsicles that were embedded with individual guest names. These substituted place cards and blended seamlessly with the overall palette.”
