A Romantic Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in Ridgetown, Ontario
Christy Sikkema (21 and a graduate student) and Kyle Heidema (23 and a manufacturing engineer) held their romantic, rustic wedding in the backyard of Christy's childhood home in Ridgetown, Ontario. "Kyle and I considered other options, but we are both simple, family-focused individuals. Home is where we feel most comfortable and most like ourselves," Christy says. A color palette of pale pinks, tans and neutrals let their outdoor environment shine. Family provided the couple with the flowers they needed, including a lot of Queen Anne's lace, Christy's favorite flower. "I think the entire endeavor of hosting a wedding at home reminded Kyle and I of the amazing family and friends that we have. The wedding became such a community effort. My neighbor helped me cut the name-card holders from fallen tree branches. My grandmother hosted family for lunch on the wedding day. My aunt and uncle harvested Queen Anne's lace early in the morning on our wedding day. Hosting a wedding in our backyard became quite the community effort," Christy says.
